3M Molecular Detection System
3M Food Safety had developed a lab device to test for food pathogens. They conceived of a simple system that could allow technicians to access complex science in an easy way. With 3M's proprietary technology, software and chemicals, an operator could simply load the device and walk away. To bring the system to market 3M, worked with Sanmina-SCI and Advanta as development and manufacturing partners.

Advanta was tasked to deliver industrial and mechanical design for the device. One of the biggest challenges on this project was completing detailed designs in a very short time frame. Working with Sanmina, Advanta developed the look and feel of the product, as well as designs for a solenoid subsystem, heat-dissipation, wire management, electronics integration, indicator light development, ergonomic issues, and over a dozen complex injection moulded parts.
