Tips on Creating a Brand

The VADAR force - Creating Product Brand

Product success can sometimes seem a universe far, far away. The VADAR force is a helpful memory aid which outlines the elements necessary in creating a differentiated product (thereby crushing your competitors).

V - value equation
What intractable problem you will solve? You must bring unique value to the marketplace.

A - audience
Who is this product for? Exactly who? A medical device for a surgeon would be quite different than the same device for a paramedic

D - defined feature set
What will this product do, and not do? Avoid the “because we can” trap. Invoke the power of the specialist by focusing what your product does really well and eliminating the rest.

A - advantage
What is your technology advantage? What features can you leverage that nobody else can?

R - really different
Find ways to be different, to be the leader, to create a position that no other competitor has. If you don’t decide to be different, you are just volunteering to be a commodity.
