A few years back, the leadership team at Blackline Safety spearheaded a revolution in the personal gas detection sector. Identifying an opportunity to integrate gas sensors into their connected safety devices, they aimed to redefine value for customers.

Embarking on a journey into a fresh market, Blackline Safety transcended conventional lone worker monitoring, ushering in disruptive changes in gas detection innovation.

The result was the G7, a game-changing disruptive device featuring 3G connectivity, two-way speakerphone, and live monitoring. This innovative leap inspired and transformed an industry that had previously been commoditized. Blackline Safety's G7 emerged as a product of pioneering product development.

This system accommodated various sensors while maintaining a water-tight seal to IP67 standards. Overcoming intrinsic safety requirements for hazardous locations added another layer of complexity.

Every reliable sensor necessitates a calibration unit! Accessories play a vital role in ensuring the functionality and performance of products like the G7. In addition to interchangeable gas sensors, the G7 requires accessories such as battery packs, belt clips, and charging stations for calibration. When designing a sensor like the G7, we must anticipate and plan for its potential product ecosystem. This involves understanding not only how users will interact with it, but also how all other components connected to it will function together.

The Red Dot Awards, headquartered in Essen, Germany, are globally recognized for honoring exceptional product design. The competition evaluates the finest designs of the day, awarding their seal of quality to outstanding products that demonstrate innovation and design excellence. In 2017, manufacturers and designers worldwide submitted their products, judged on criteria including innovation, functionality, ergonomics, durability, and overall design quality. The G7 exemplifies excellence in all these aspects, reflecting Blackline dedication to enhancing personal safety, as acknowledged by this prestigious award.

The Blackline Safety G7 emerged as the flagship product paving the way for future innovations at Blackline. The initial design, focusing not only on aesthetics but also functionality, served as a blueprint for subsequent products in Blackline's lineup.
