EXPERIAN PHASER

FOR LAZER RUNNER

Bringing the game to a whole new level.

In 2016, when Laser Runner, a top North American laser tag equipment manufacturer, approached us, excitement filled the studio. The challenge: design the next-gen phaser. Our goal was an exciting, durable device with a new display and top-notch user interface, appealing to all ages. Ergonomic tests with handmade foam models ensured sizing for users of all ages. The design prioritized the "cool factor," durability, safety, and cost-effectiveness. To enhance resistance and safety, a two-shot plastic molding process was employed, combining rigid and soft plastics for structure and comfort.

Fun and Safety

Design During the conception of this project, the key focus of our visual exploration was the term "fun." Our goal was to create a phaser that could have been directly extracted from a science fiction scene, leading us to revisit our classics during the conceptual phase. The overall shape of the device, in addition to sparking enjoyment, encourages clients to hold the phaser with both hands. This feature provides laser game room management the assurance that no client will attempt to climb the walls of the room, ensuring a safe and controlled environment.

Intergenerational Ergonomics

The carefully crafted design of this project was thoughtfully planned to adapt to both children and adults, constituting a crucial aspect of the project. Striking the perfect balance between child-friendly appeal and adult ergonomics has been at the heart of our concerns at every stage of the design process.

Enhancing Durability and Efficiency

The phasers are in service for years. Recreational center staff may need to service or replace parts. Laser Runner aimed for easy on-site service, avoiding returning units. This cuts total ownership costs, creating a competitive edge. With Microlynx, Advanta designed a modular electronics approach for easy repairs. Maintenance personnel, the primary users, influenced interior and assembly design for quick part replacements. Designed, made, and assembled in Canada, it's a stunning, rugged laser tag phaser, akin to a video game prop, ready for a sci-fi movie cameo.

3... 2... (1) ... ACTION

LAZER RUNNER created an impressive action-packed video to unveil their latest product innovation: the new Gen4 Phaser. Proudly introducing this star product, their design is showcased as the centerpiece of the short film.

"LAZER RUNNER is revolutionizing the game with a cutting-edge vibe, boasting unique features including a newly designed magnetic trigger, vibrating pulse shots, 20 incredibly bright LED's, and Lock-On targeting, all encased in a defused white shell with protective overmolding."

“ What I like about this product is that it has been reviewed for many angles. The assembler, the maintenance guy, the end client, the end user (Kid or adult). There is a part of the product that has been designed for each of them.”
