Design with users dignity in mind
The ORA project introduces a distress call button system designed in an enclosure that restore the dignity of its users. The key objective was to avoid the appearance of a medical device and ensure that the product seamlessly integrates into the user's life without crossing any acceptability barriers. Whether discreetly concealed within jewelry or securely snapped into a frame during activities requiring movement (as depicted in the cover image), the product's design prioritizes user comfort and discretion.
THE REAL LIFE SIZE SCALE CHALLENGE
A project of this nature presented significant hurdles in miniaturizing components, batteries, electronics, thicknesses, overmolding, and ensuring waterproofing of the activation button. In such endeavors, even a margin as small as 0.25mm holds critical importance. However, perceiving these nuances can be challenging when working on a large 21-inch display. Various iterations were developed to tackle weight and ergonomic concerns, particularly catering to elderly users. User testing played a pivotal role in refining the design and enhancing user-friendliness.
Designing for a ALL Persona
The Raindrop Jewel version posed a blend of technical hurdles and artistic nuances, demanding meticulous attention to detail and aesthetics to craft a product that seamlessly blends elegance with functionality. Developing products for "all" personas in mind is not typical for our team. Therefore, we needed to pivot from our usual focus on the average blue-collar worker and instead prioritize design elements that cater to the proper usage and safety of the intended user.
Collaboration with Suppliers
Securing suitable suppliers for manufacturing components such as the silver cast jewel or the raindrop stone proved to be a daunting task. However, leveraging our extensive network of suppliers and conducting meticulous research enabled the team to identify a dependable partner offshore. Maintaining quality standards and effective communication with the supplier were paramount to guaranteeing the project's success. While this process presented a learning curve for our team, the proficiency of the selected supplier facilitated rapid adaptation to this approach.
The best Idea IS SUPPOSED TO Wins
At Advanta, we prioritize setting aside personal egos to foster a successful design environment where the best idea can win. In this particular project, the client proposed integrating a click mechanism into the plastic main unit. Consequently, we structured the entire modularity system around this desired feature. It's imperative to heed the client's insights throughout the design process since they possess the most intimate understanding of their needs. Acknowledging that we don't hold a monopoly on good ideas is a pillar to enhance the outcome of the products we design.
Content Generation for Crowdfunding Campaigns
Throughout the design process, we frequently find ourselves assisting clients in generating visuals and content for producing videos or static materials. These assets may be utilized for various purposes such as showcasing products at trade shows, launching new products, or bolstering marketing endeavors on crowdfunding platforms such as Kickstarter or Indiegogo. Our expertise lies in crafting images, pictures, and animations to aid you in developing compelling content for your campaign.
